保管
輸送が物品の空間的移転であるのに対し、保管は物品の時間的移転であるといえる。社会経済的にみても、価格調整機能があることや安定供給機能があることなど、流通の重要な一部を占めている。たとえば、農産物のように生産に季節性があり、消費が年間を通じて行なわれるものについては、保管機能を高めることによって出盛り期の価格低落を防止することができる。また、清涼飲料水などのように消費に季節性があるものも、保管機能があることによって、年間を通した生産が可能となる。
