しょう‐ちゅう〔セウチウ〕【焼酎】
読み方：しょうちゅう
日本固有の蒸留酒。酒かす・みりんかすを蒸留したものと、穀類やサツマイモを発酵させたもろみを蒸留したものとがある。アルコール分20〜50パーセント。米焼酎・芋焼酎・麦焼酎・泡盛など多くの種類がある。《季夏》「汗垂れて彼の飲む—豚の肝臓(きも)／波郷」
[補説]酒税法では、連続式蒸留機で蒸留した甲類と、単式蒸留機で蒸留した乙類に分類される。→甲類焼酎→乙類焼酎
