せい‐じん【成人】

［名］(スル)
１心身が発達して一人前になった人。成年に達した人間。おとな。現代日本では、一般的に満18歳以上の者をいう。→成年
２子供が成長して大人になること。「娘はもう—して働きに出ている」
[補説]1は、令和4年（2022）4月の民法改正以前は、満20歳とされていた。

成人
子供時代の後は、思春期（620-2）に始まる思春期 1または青年期 1が続く。青年 2または若者 3という用語は、子供時代と成年 4の間の男女を指して使われる。成熟期 4に達したものは成人 5と呼ばれる。老年 6は大部分の人が引退した人生の時期を定義するのに用いられる。この年齢以上の人々は老人 8、高齢者 8、老年者 8と呼ばれる。1.若者youthという語を集合的に用いることもある。単数で用いる場合は、男性を意味することが多い。アメリカ合衆国では、ティーンエージャーteenagerはteenのつく十代、すなわち13歳から19歳の人を指す。2.成人maturity（名）；成人のmature（形）；成熟maturation（名）：成人に達する過程。

成人式((hold)) a coming-of-age celebration
成人式 Seijinshiki is an annual ceremony organized by local governments to recognize the accession to adulthood of young people who will reach the legal age of twenty during that calendar year. This ceremony is held on the second Monday of January and has been designated a national holiday called “Coming of Age Day."(Before 2000, it fell on January 15.) At the ceremony men normally wear suits while women tend to come fully dressed up, many in long-sleeved kimono called furisode.（意訳：満20歳になった男女が一人前の大人になったことを社会的に承認する儀式．満20歳は法的に成年と見なされ，さまざまな権利・義務を持つようになる．2000年から１月の第２月曜日が成人の日（以前は１月15日）として定められ，国民の祝日の一つとなっている．この日，各地方自治体では成人になった青年男女を招待して祝典を開く．男性はスーツ，女性は振り袖などの晴れ着を着て出席することが多い）
