２「春の七草」のこと。芹(せり)・薺(なずな)・御形(ごぎょう)・蘩蔞(はこべ)・仏座(ほとけのざ)・菘(すずな)・蘿蔔(すずしろ)。《季新年》
３「秋の七草」のこと。萩(はぎ)・尾花(おばな)・葛(くず)・撫子(なでしこ)・女郎花(おみなえし)・藤袴(ふじばかま)・桔梗(ききょう)。
４「七種の節句」の略。

ななくさ【七種・七草】 世界宗教用語大事典
七種の菜をいい、春は芹・・御形・はこべ・仏座・・蘿蔔、秋は萩・尾花・葛・撫子・女郎花・藤袴・朝顔（今の桔梗かとの説あり）など。春のは正月七日に粥に入れて食べ七種の節句（人日）とし、秋のは見て楽しむが、たんに七草といえば春のをいう。粥に入れる前に俎の上で「唐土の鳥が日本の土地へ渡らぬ先にナズナ七種」などと囃して（別句もあり）、すりこぎなどで吉方に向かって叩く風もある。七種粥の汁水をつけて爪を切ると邪気を払うとし、これを七種爪という。
